December is the twelfth and final month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. December was the tenth and final month in the original ten-month Roman calendar established by Romulus, founder of Rome, where March was the first month of the year. December was also temporarily named Exsuperatorius by Commodus, after one of his names, meaning "the supreme" and being a title given to Jupiter, king of Olympus. December is the sixth and final month with thirty-one days (after January, March, May, July, August, and October).
