November, meaning nine, is the eleventh month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. November was the seventh month of the year in the original ten-month Roman calendar established by Romulus, founder of Rome, hence its name, and was under the tutelage of Diana, virgin goddess of hunting and the moon. November was also temporarily named Romanus by Commodus, after one of his names, most likely taken after the Roman Empire. November is the fourth and final month with thirty days (after April, June, and September).
