September, meaning seven, is the ninth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. September was the seventh month of the year in the original ten-month Roman calendar established by Romulus, founder of Rome, hence its name, and was under the tutelage of Vulcan, god of fire and blacksmiths. September was also temporarily named Augustus, after Commodus's title taken from the first emperor of Rome, Augustus, by Commodus himself, who renamed the actual month August, which was already named after Augustus, after his name Commodus. September is the third month with thirty days (after April and June, and before November).
