— Jupiter to Juno in Athens[[{{{4}}}|[src]]]

King Iupitter Optimus Maximus (Jupiter) (Proto-Indo-European *dyḗws: the bright one) (pronunciation: JOO-pih-ter) is the King of the Roman Olympians and youngest son of Saturn and Ops, as well as Roman aspect of Zeus and the vakha Aran. Jupiter was the only child of the ruling Titans to be saved from being swallowed by his father and was raised on Crete to prevent this.

Jupiter eventually overthrew Saturn as king of the universe after freeing his siblings. Jupiter then became god of the sky after winning a dice game with Neptune and Pluto. Jupiter married his cousin Metis but swallowed her whole after Terra issued a prophecy that if they had a son together, he would overthrow his father. Jupiter then married his aunt Themis before the two divorced due to monstrous children. Jupiter eventually settled with his sister Juno, who did not tolerate the former's many affairs.

Millennia later, Jupiter sired Jason Grace after his Greek aspect Zeus had sired Thalia Grace through the same woman, Beryl Grace, then had his Master Bolt stolen by his grandson Luke Castellan, who framed Neptune and his Greek aspect Poseidon's demigod son Perseus Jackson. Jackson managed to prove himself innocent after taking the Bolt from Mars. Jupiter also fought Typhon during the Second Titanomachy and witnessed Jackson refuse his offer of immortality.

After this incident, Jupiter became paranoid and damaged in his pride due to being saved by demigods and closed off Olympus, encouraged to do so by Chione. However, this only sped up the process of the Second Gigantomachy and Jupiter was incapacitated during the Great Divine Schism, split between himself and his Greek aspect Zeus. At the end of the Schism, Jupiter helped Jason Grace kill the Gigantes king Porphyrion.

Abilities

  • Massive Strength: Jupiter has incredible physical prowess, being able to lift and hurl entire mountains at his enemies. Jupiter also overpowered the incredibly strong Typhon and Vulcan, as well as flinging the Argo II from Athens to Camp Half-Blood with ease at supersonic speeds.
  • Battle Prowess: Jupiter is an extremely skilled, formidable, and experienced warrior, able to overpower Vulcan easily, defeat Kampê, battle Saturn, and crush Typhon under a volcano.
  • Height Manipulation: Jupiter can tremendously increase his height, to the point where he is half as tall as Typhon (who is around roughly 17,448 ft.[2])
  • Aerokinesis: As god of the sky, Jupiter has absolute control over air.
    • Wind Storms: Jupiter can generate tremendously powerful hurricanes and tornadoes at will.
    • Flight: Jupiter can manipulate the air currents around him to hover and fly at great speeds.
    • Cloud Manipulation: Jupiter was able to create an indistinguishable living replica of Juno out of a cloud, which became an intelligent cloud nymph and ancestor of the centaurs.
  • Atmokinesis: Jupiter has absolute control over the weather.
    • Celestial Hydrokinesis: Jupiter and Neptune started the Flood of Deucalion; the former caused tremendous torrents of rain to pour down from the heavens all over the world for nine days and nights.
  • Electrokinesis: As the god of thunder and lightning, Jupiter has absolute control over both static and celestial electricity.
  • Supernatural Sight: Jupiter was able to see Danaë, who was trapped inside an underground bronze cell. He was also able to mentally zoom in and clearly perceive Phaethon driving the Sun Chariot.
  • Chlorokinesis: Jupiter was able to grow magnificent fields of flowers to lure his daughter Proserpine to Pluto.
  • Knowledge of Plants: Jupiter learned of the properties of herbs and plants from the nymphs who raised him.
  • Ergokinesis: Jupiter can temporarily strip away and restore any other Olympian of their godly powers and/or divinity. Zeus did so to Neptune and Apollo after the Olympian Riot, Apollo again after he had killed the Elder Cyclopes, and took away Dionysus's alcokinesis abilities. Apollo's divinity was taken away a third time by Zeus after the Second Giigantomachy.
  • Shapeshifting: Zeus has always had a talent for shapeshifting, transforming himself into a Titanic version of himself to deceive Kronos and the other Titans, a bull, an eagle, swan, cuckoo, ant, and serpent in order to seduce his many lovers, as well as changing form into that of another mortal or god, such as Diana or Amphitryon, and even a dazzling shower of gold.
  • Teleportation: Jupiter can disappear in "a blinding flash of lightning".
  • Animal Control: Jupiter can summon and control animals that are sacred to him, such as eagles.
  • Amokinesis: Jupiter was able to make Venus, the very goddess of love, fall in love with the mortal shepherd Anchises.
  • Entertainment Skills: Jupiter is an excellent entertainer, learning his skills from the Couretes, with singing "as clear as the streams on Mount Ida" and outrageously hilarious satyr jokes.

Jupiter's attributes are his Master Bolt and Aegis robe-shield, which he and Minerva use interchangeably.

  • Jupiter is the namesake of the sixth planet in the solar system from the sun, named after him for being the largest planet.

Notes and references

  1. Jupiter's son Apollo was born in c. 2602 BC, after he broke his promise to Juno to remain a faithful husband, three hundred years after they were married. Therefore, Jupiter was born over three hundred years before Apollo.
  2. Typhon was mentioned as being about as tall to use the Empire State Building as a baseball bat. A standard baseball bat is about twelve times less the height of an average human being, and the Empire State Building is 1,454 feet tall. 1,454 multiplied by 12 is 17,448.
