Michael Varus was the Roman demigod son of Janus. He eventually became praetor of the Twelfth Legion Fulminata by the 1980s and attempted to achieve fame by completing the Prophecy of Seven. Varus marched his cohort to Alaska, only to be attacked by Alcyoneus, losing the Twelfth Legion's Eagle and most of the legion's Imperial gold weaponry. Varus and his entire cohort were labeled as outcasts and Varus was most likely expelled from the legion.

Varus had died by July 18, 2010[2], and was brought back through the Doors of Death and joined Gaea's suitors in Ithaca. During the Skirmish on Ithaca, Varus stabbed Jason Grace with an Imperial gold sword, only to be killed again by Piper McLean.

Etymology

  • Varus means crooked in Latin.
    • Varus's history is similar to that of Roman General Publius Quinctilius Varus, who lost three Roman legions.

Notes and references

  1. Under most circumstances, Varus would have had to have been in the Twelfth Legion Fulminata for at least five years to be praetor by the 1980s. He also would have had to be old enough to be a praetor.
  2. 2.0 2.1 The Doors of Death were closed on July 18, 2010. To have been brought back when they were open, Varus must have died before they were closed.
  3. 3.0 3.1 In Roman mythology, Janus is said to be the son of Caelus and Trivia. However, in the same text, Saturn and Ops, children of Caelus and Terra, are said to be children of Caelus and Trivia. Therefore, Janus is probably also the son of Caelus and Terra.
