Etymology
Potter's first name, HARRY, is a Medieval English form of the Germanic name Heimirich, ("home ruler"). His middle name, JAMES, derived from the name of his father James Potter I, is an English form of the Hebrew name Ya'aqov ("holder of the heel"). His surname, POTTER, is derived from the name of his ancestor Linfred of Stinchcombe's nickname of "The Potterer".
