— Newt Scamander[src] |
Newton Artemis Fido "Newt" Scamander, O.M. (Second Class) (1987—) is a famed Magizoologist and the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them; the brother of Theseus Scamander, the husband of Porpentina Scamander, the grandfather of Rolf Scamander, and the great-grandfather of Lorcan and Lysander Scamander.
Scamander was expelled from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (where he had been sorted into Hufflepuff House) when he took the blame for one of his friend Leta Lestrange's Jarvey experiments, which was illegal and endangered the life of another student. In 1926, Scamander visited New York during his year-long-trip to document magical creatures and their natural habitats. His magical suitcase was opened accidentally by No-Maj Jacob Kowalski, leading to the involvement of ex-Auror Tina Goldstein. Amidst all the confusion in New York, Scamander attempted to help the Obscurial Credence Barebone and helped to successfully capture Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald.
Scamander went on to marry Goldstein and the two had a son, who in turn sired Rolf Scamander, who went on to marry Luna Lovegood, the couple producing twin great-grandchildren Lorcan and Lysander Scamander. Newt was responsible for the inception of the Werewolf Register and the creation of the Ban on Experimental Breeding. By the 1990s, Scamander was retired in Dorset with his wife and their three pet Kneazles: Hoppy, Milly, and Mauler.
