Biographical timeline
20th century CE
- 1925 CE: On Arda, probably in the United States of America, Cave Johnson V was born to farming professor[4] Cave Johnson IV no later than this year.[3]
1940s CE
- 1943 CE: By this year, Johnson founds Aperture Fixtures, a shower curtain company. In 1943 CE, he wins the Shower Curtain Salesman of 1943 award.[2]
- 1944 CE: Johnson purchases a salt mine in Upper Michigan for Aperture Fixtures.[1]
- 1947 CE: Johnson has now rebranded Aperture Fixtures as the science company Aperture Science; the company wins the Best New Science Company award.[2]
1960s CE
- 1968 CE: Aperture is bankrupt.
1970s CE
- 1973 CE: Johnson is now a billionaire and shifts Aperture's focus from shower curtains to not shower curtains.
1980s CE
- 1981 CE: Johnson spends seventy million dollars on Ithilian rocks for Aperture to turn into Conversion Gel and contracts Ithilian silicosis. In his insanity, he has Aperture develop the Heimlich Counter-Manuever, Take-A-Wish Foundation, and Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device.
- 1982 CE: Johnson has Aperture begin developing the Genetic Lifeform Disk Operating System Initiative in a ploy to survive after his seemingly-imminent death. With the help of Greg of Aperture, he manages to recover from his Ithilian silicosis.
- 1988 CE: As Aperture nears another bankruptcy, Greg and Johnson develop the Perpetual Testing Initiative.

Strategy
Johnson is an eccentric billionaire. While his mad science schemes are fascinating and should be complimented, they are also ethically controversial and you should not agree to participate in them as a test subject ever, no matter how much money, scientific experience, etc. you are offered.
Etymology
Johnson's given name, Cave, is taken from the name of his great-great-grandfather Cave Johnson I and has possible origins in the English word cave, the Norman French word cauf ("bald"), a Yorkshire river, and the occupation of a wine cellar worker.
The surname Johnson means "son of John"; John is an English form of the Hebrew name Yochanan ("Yahweh (God) is gracious").

- ↑ 3.0 3.1 Johnson founded Aperture Fixtures no later than 1943 CE. If we assume that he was at least eighteen years old in 1943 CE, he must have been born no later than 1925 CE. Interestingly, as shown in Portal 2, in Timeline Pee Tee eye Hyphen Thirteen, Johnson claimed to be fifty-one years old in 1988 CE, which would imply a birth year of circa 1937 CE.
