The Titans (singular: Titan) were a race of immortals descended from Ouranos and Gaea. The Titans lived in the Golden Age under the rules of Ouranos and Kronos and preceded the Olympians. Kronos, an Elder Titan, scattered his father Ouranos and took over the universe, but gave birth to the Elder Olympians, who defeated Kronos in the Titanomachy and threw the Titans on his side into Tartarus, with the exception of Atlas, who was forced to bear the Titan's Curse. Those Titans also fought in Kronos's comeback attempt, the Second Titanomachy, leading in all the Titans except Kronos, who was scattered, Atlas, who continued to bear the Titan's Curse, and Iapetus, whose memory was wiped in the River Lethe.

Trivia

  • Titans are the only species that can be forced to bear the Titan's Curse.
  • Some Titans are actually personifications of the things they reside over (e.g. Helios and Selene being the very embodiments of the Sun and Moon).
  • The planet Saturn, named after the Roman aspect of Kronos, has a moon named Titan, the second-largest known moon in the solar system.
  • The element Titanium, used by Zane Roberts as the metal for his second body, is named after the Titans.
