Octavian: "This is war! I've brought you to the brink of ultimate victory and you want to give up? First Cohort: arrest Centurion Dakota and any who stand with him. Fifth Cohort: remember your vows to Rome and the legion. You will obey me!"
Will Solace: "Don't do this, Octavian. Don't force your people to choose. This is your last chance."
Octavian: "My last chance? I will SAVE ROME! Now, Romans, follow my orders! Arrest Dakota. Destroy these Graecus scum. And reload those onagers!"

Pontifex Senator Centurion Augur Octavian was a descendant of Apollo and the augur of Camp Jupiter, as well as the Centurion of the First Cohort. Octavian had the gift of prophecy and flattered Apollo into blessing him and saying he would the savior of Rome. When Praetor Jason Grace disappeared, Octavian decided to run as a candidate for the new praetor.

When Perseus Jackson, introduced by Juno as a son of Neptune, arrived at Camp Jupiter, Octavian allowed him to join the camp and was suspected of killing the Fifth Cohort's centurion Gwendolyn before she came back to life due to Letus being chained. After Mars issued the Quest for Thanatos, Octavian defended the camp in the Attack on Camp Jupiter and was extremely displeased when Jackson was named praetor. Octavian also strongly opposed Jackson at the senate meeting the following day, distrusting Camp Half-Blood. However, an eidolon possessed Leonidas Valdez and forced him to fire on New Rome from the Argo II, Octavian was enraged and was one of the first to declare war on Camp Half-Blood.

When praetor Reyna Ramírez-Arellano left to find the Demigods of Seven, however, Octavian took control of the Twelfth Legion Fulminata and disobeyed Ramírez-Arellano's direct orders not to attack Camp Half-Blood until she returned, saying that she had broken the law by entering the Mediterranean and was no longer praetor. Octavian elevated himself to pontifex maximus and allowed monsters and rogue demigods and legacies (such as Bryce Lawrence) into the legion. Octavian obtained many weapons with financial support from Triumvirate Holdings and attacked Camp Half-Blood. Although Ramírez-Arellano returned the Athena Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood, Gaea awoke at the camp and began to attack. A now nearly insane Octavian attempted to shoot Gaea with an onager but had his cape caught and was killed in the resulting explosion.

Abilities

  • Oratory Skills: Octavian is an excellent orator and is able to effectively use words to achieve his goals. Octavian can also win the favor of others as an orator.
  • Prophecy: As a legacy of Apollo, Octavian can interpret the will of the gods by reading the interior of stuffed animals. However, his power over prophecy was lost due to the combined efforts of Python and Triumvirate Holdings.

Family

Octavian is a descendant of Apollo, Olympian of archery and the sun, in turn the son of Jupiter and Latona.

Trivia

  • Octavian was killed by launching himself with an onager, which is ironic, as Frank Zhang told Reyna Ramírez-Arellano that their first order of business should be launching Octavian away in a catapult on July 18, shortly after he was promoted to praetor.
  • Octavian was named after Augustus, the first Roman emperor. Octavian claimed that Augustus was his ancestor to Michael Kahale shortly after accepting Bryce Lawrence back into the Twelfth Legion Fulminata.
    • It is unknown if Octavian is descended from Apollo only through Augustus. Although this is possible, it is unlikely that he would inherit Apollo's gift of prophecy through such a distant line
  • Octavian joined Camp Jupiter when he was eleven, as shown when he had seven slash marks on his SPQR tattoo when he was eighteen.
  • Octavian's family has been at Camp Jupiter for over a century.
  • Rachel Dare called Octavian a son of Apollo rather than a legacy, although this is only honorary and symbolic.
  • Although Octavian is a legacy of Apollo, he has an uncanny resemblance to Luke Castellan, a son of Hermes (Mercury).
