"With great power comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later." |
— Nico di Angelo to Perseus Jackson[[{{{4}}}|[src]]] |
Nico di Angelo is the Greek demigod son of Hades and Maria di Angelo. The younger brother of Bianca di Angelo, Nico was born during World War II. During the time the oath of the Big Three was made, Hades refused to give up his children. As a result, Zeus attempted to kill the children but failed, instead killing Maria. A furious Hades then had his children's memories wiped the River Lethe and them put in the Lotus Hotel and Casino.
Around seventy years later, when the siblings believed only a month had passed, Alecto had Nico and Bianca taken to the military school Westover Hall, where they were abducted by Thorn. Perseus Jackson, Grover Underwood, Annabeth Chase, and Thalia Grace arrived to take them to Camp Half-Blood, and the siblings were rescued by the Hunters of Artemis. Bianca then joined the Hunters and the two were taken to Camp Half-Blood by Apollo. Nico spoke to Hestia at the camp and then had Jackson promise to keep Bianca safe on the Quest for Artemis. However, Bianca was killed when the Talos prototype was destroyed, infuriating Nico and prompting him to leave through Daedalus's Labyrinth.
In the Labyrinth, di Angelo met Minos, who attempted to manipulate him into killing Daedalus to resurrect him, lying to the son of Hades that Bianca would instead be resurrected. Di Angelo then visited Geryon, unexpectedly encountering Jackson, Underwood, and Chase, along with Jackson's Cyclops half-brother Tyson. Bianca's spirit then convinced Nico to loosen his grudge on Jackson. Minos, however, convinced Nico to leave again, leading di Angelo to be abducted by dracanae. Di Angelo then fought in the Battle of the Labyrinth and released the soul of Daedalus. Di Angelo then left Camp Half-Blood again and told Jackson to bathe in the River Styx to defeat Kronos.
After helping retrieve the Sword of Hades, di Angelo convinced Hades, Persephone, and Demeter to fight Kronos, the four being a major contribution to the Battle of Manhattan. Di Angelo attempted to bring back Bianca from the dead while Thanatos was chained, but failed due to her having been reborn. He instead brought his half-sister Hazel Levesque to Camp Jupiter, introducing himself as the "ambassador of Pluto" on Hades's request.
While looking for a missing Jackson, di Angelo visited Camp Jupiter again, only to find him there. After carefully explaining what had happened in the Second Titanomachy due to fearing the return of his memory, he went to Tartarus to search for the Doors of Death but was imprisoned in a jar by Otis and Ephialtes, surviving on Persephone's pomegranate seeds in a death coma. Di Angelo was rescued by the Demigods of Seven and temporarily lived on the Argo II.
Di Angelo also helped bring the Athena Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood along with Reyna Ramírez-Arellano and Gleeson Hedge. He also was at Camp Half-Blood when Apollo arrived after becoming mortal and helped protect the camp when it was attacked by the Colossus Neronis.
