Mortals (singular: Mortal) are living creatures able to die, including humans, animals, and Norse Dwarves, and Elves. Some mortals, such as demigods and legacies, have divine blood, and wizardkind have magic abilities. Monsters and nature spirits, however, are not mortal because the former reform in Tartarus and the latter reincarnate as plant life.

Trivia

  • Although demigods call humans "mortals", they themselves are mortal. This is done to differentiate themselves from regular mortals.
  • There are several ways for a mortal to become immortal, including a woman becoming a Hunter of Artemis, or gods granting said mortal immortality.
  • Eru Ilúvatar intended mortality as part of the Gift of Men, but by the time of the Second Age of the Sun, mortals despised death and continually attempted to thwart it.
