— Mars to Perseus Jackson at Camp Jupiter[[{{{4}}}|[src]]]
|
Mars (Latin: war, battle, conflict) is the Roman god of war and son of Jupiter and Juno, as well as Roman aspect of Ares and the vakha Ohta. Mars was the first son of Jupiter and Juno and twin brother of Bellona, with whom he had a son, Enyalius. Mars also began an affair with Venus after her marriage to his half-brother Vulcan, leading to Vulcan catching this both in a golden net. Mars was also imprisoned in the Bronze Jar by the Alodai and helped Vulcan and Hercules kill Mimas during the Gigantomachy. Mars also supported Troy during the Trojan War.
During the Second Titanomachy, Luke Castellan, son of Hermes (Mercury), gave the stolen Master Bolt and Helm of Darkness to Ares, Mars's Greek aspect. Perseus Jackson then defeated Ares and returned the Bolt and Helm to Jupiter and Pluto, respectively. Mars eventually met Jackson when he had been taken to Camp Jupiter by Juno and claimed Frank Zhang, simultaneously issuing the Quest for Thanatos. Mars was incapacitated during the Great Divine Schism between himself and Ares, leading their voices to argue inside Zhang's head. In the Battle of Athens, Mars also helped Zhang kill numerous Gigantes when the Schism ended.
